Why Do We Do Dumb Sh1t?
Why Do We Do Dumb Sh1t?
Do you ever do sh1t that you know isn’t good for you but you can’t stop?
Like eating crappy food when you promised yourself you’d ‘diet’, then regretting it afterward and feeling garbage?
I know exactly what it feels like…
A few years back when I went through a breakup, I had this inner need to ‘lash out’ at the weekends.
It was kind of like I was punishing myself - self-sabotage for feeling good.
I’d think ‘I’m going to get on it tonight!’
And then the next day, I’d wake up with the beer fears, a gut full of ‘ready to eject’ vomit and wonder ‘what the f$#k is wrong with you man?’
‘You know it makes you feel crap but you do it anyway… are you an idiot?’
I wanted to change it, so I stopped reading books about business and started reading about the mind and how it works.
I was fascinated with how individually, we seem to run off a set of daily habits..
Like a program
‘Where does the program come from?’ I thought? ‘Who gave me it?’
My reading introduced me to a whole new world loosely referred to as the subconscious mind.
I learned that this part of the mind is where habits are stored and control 95% of what we do in a day.
I thought ‘well if 95% of my life is being controlled by some process I am not consciously choosing, is there a chance that by learning to become more present, more aware, I could change my outcomes?’
And would learning to THINK make me make me stop doing dumb sh1t?
Funnily enough, it did.
And not only did it help me stop the dumb, non-productive stuff
It also helped me do and attract more of the stuff that helped my life.
And further, doing this stuff changed me as a person and helped me to achieve the body and material goals I have…
Getting to know myself and what makes me tick has got to be the most important choice I have made in my life.
Can you imagine what your world would be like if you were able to do the same?
We’d wake up every day with a sense of energy and purpose, not just a loose task list of boring activity…
It’s like living with intention and a connection to something way more than me…
And it’s f*cking awesome…
