Homophobia: A Call Out To Straight Men

The issue of homophobia and discrimination against non-heterosexual persons is a hot topic this week after Australia’s former world swim champion announced his homosexuality on national TV. Ian Thorpe engaged Sir Michael Parkinson in a tell-all interview that aired in Australia on Sunday night two weeks back. The response to the interview has been divided with sentiments right along the spectrum ‘coming out’ (mind the pun) from strength, support and pride to confusion, condemnation and discrimination. We have even seen division amongst the homosexual community due to the fact that he publicly denied his true sexuality for as long as he did.

Creatine: The Wonder Supp?

It’s the most studied supplement in history and has had more sceptical eyes cast over it than any other. Yet time after time, study after study, creatine has proven itself the real deal of the legal performance enhancement world. Having been commercially available for over 20 years, perhaps you have wondered whether you’re missing out on something, a silver bullet maybe? Well this post is aimed at debunking any questions you have surrounding creatine and helping you to decide whether it’s a worthwhile investment for you.

You, The Loo and Your Number 2’s

This is sure to be a ‘crappy’ entry! – Poo – what a ‘shitty’ topic! – The sentiment of this post really ‘stinks’.

There we go! Now the potty humour is out of the way, we can have a serious discussion on what is so often a topic brushed off as the ‘butt’ of a joke (ok, sorry, that’s all). Digestive health is one of those taboo topics that people know about but don’t really like to talk about openly. I find this veil of secrecy and embarrassment so ridiculous given that everyone farts and everyone poos. The aim of this post is simply to shed light on a topic that has for too long been banished to a quiet place.

Music: The Strongest Motivator

STOP!!! Before you start reading, stop what you are doing! Sit up wherever you are with some good posture but remaining relaxed. Now, press PLAY on the video above and shut your eyes! Open them up when the vid stops playing!

Now if you’ve done as I requested, my bet is that you feel ALIVE after hearing that tune. You see Daft Punk are unmatched at capturing the true power of music’s ability to influence your mood. If you are familiar with their newest album Random Access Memories, you’ll know what I mean about being taken down an incredible journey of musical emotion. I am certainly no Richard Wilkins (not sure I’d want to be) but this sets the tone for the topic I want to discuss here… the power of music! Old mate Bono once said “music can change the world because it can change people” and I recon he’s spot on. Music is a powerful force that has the potential to evoke crazy motivation and even completely change our mood. So how is this possible?

The Way I Start My Day!

I am often asked where my energy comes from, particularly in the morning. Whilst the tired, unenthused majority are struggling to wake up at 730am, I’ve already done an hour gym session, had breakfast and cracked out nearly an hour of work. This post may seem a little self-serving but given the amount of people that have asked – “what’s the secret?”, I feel compelled to share my blueprint – the blueprint to swapping lie-ins for leg-presses!

Unmotivated? This Could Help!

I can remember having conversations with my old man when I was young. He would ask me what I was working toward and what my goals were both now and in the future. Wow! Talk about asking the big questions of a twelve year old! I knew the actions my father was trying to provoke in me and I believed in the power and importance of goal-setting. Yet now with more life experience, I would argue that goal setting is much more detailed than simply stating what you want and going after that goal at all costs.

With this post, my GOAL is to (oh, this is awkward) show you how to incorporate goal setting in your life in a practical, healthy and beneficial manner.

Don’t Sleep On It!

Check this out! The world record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours and 40 minutes. Some foolish gentleman decided to partake in a test of human endurance to determine what was indeed possible. Sure, he got the record but the accompanying side effects were horrendous – starting with lapses in concentration and blurred vision, it ended with slurred speech, hallucinations and paranoia. See despite our productivity-motivated efforts in trying to maximise output by minimising sleep, we now recognise the critical, regenerative role sleep plays and need to consider the damage lack of sleep may be doing to us.

Why Watch Your Wee?

Everyone knows that your supposed to drink two litres of water a day.  You've be told that by your mum since you were 7 years old so if it's not locked into that skull of yours by now, it'll never be! So why is it that despite knowing the rule, you've for so long neglected to follow it? Well I am here to tell you that as always, mumma really did know best.

I do not routinely hangout in bathrooms waiting for the next guy to join me at the cubicle so I can check out his pee! Fair to say, that would be creepy. Yet I will say that in times gone by when I am going about my own leaky business, the very communal nature of the urinal makes it almost impossible to not pass judgement.

Spiritual Crap? Mindfulness for Men

I certainly would not identify myself as a spiritual person. Well not until the last couple of years that is. It used to be that when it came to spiritualism, meditation and mindfulness, the idea of some hippy psychic gazing into a coffee cup and trying to make some worldly sense of her crema was all I could conjure up. For me, the concept of 'live every day like it's your last' had merit but was also an excuse for an individual to take no responsibility for their reckless behaviour in the present.

The First of Many...

For as long as I can remember, I've had a craving for getting my hands on information surrounding health and wellness. Whether it's nutrition, fitness, stress management, sleep quality, mental health, meditation or any other subcategory of this larger realm, I'm into it!

My addiction here stems from my belief HEALTH is the key to HAPPINESS. It's that simple...

It seems that as the world has become closer, we have actually gotten further away. Social media for all of its strengths is at the root of what I believe to be a global crisis. The crisis being that we have stopped meeting for coffee. A crisis where twenty 'likes' on Facebook takes the place of a phone call to say 'I love you and miss you, friend.'
